Martyr’s Day

The ‘Shaheed Diwas’ or ‘Martyr’s Day’ is observed every year in India on 30 January. The day marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On Martyr’s Day, the country pays homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during India’s struggle to get freedom from the oppressive British rule.

A special assembly was conducted by the students of classes 5 and 7 to observe Martyr’s Day at VVA. They presented a poem, revolutionary quotes and a speech highlighting the contribution of the freedom fighters. Students sang a bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ which was fondly cherished by Mahatma Gandhi. A quiz was conducted to enhance the knowledge of students about Martyr’s Day. Students and teachers observed two minutes silence at 11am to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs.
