The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed by the United Nations (UN) on 11th February, every year. The day focuses on the reality that science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals.
The day aims to promote the participation of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
This year, the theme for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us”. The UN reported that people around the world do not have much access to water, and the major focus was to educate the governments about the rising demand, poor management and water conservation to acquire sustainable development.
A special assembly video was uploaded to raise awareness about the contribution of women and girls in the field of Science and Technology. The video shed light on the various reasons as to why women are under represented in STEM fields.
