The Outreach Committee of Vidya Vikas Academy conducted a ‘Heritage Walk’ in collaboration with Rotary Club of Margao Sunrise on 24th April 2023. Teachers and students started the walk from Rachol historical fort gate. A few villagers too participated in the walk.
While walking through the villages of Raia and Rachol, a resource person Antonio Xavier Fernandes, the Chairman of Village Biodiversity Management Committee of Raia, provided information regarding the wetlands and the historical monuments in the villages. He also mentioned about the rich flora and fauna in the area. The walk proved to be a great opportunity to see many plants and native and migratory birds that were mentioned by the resource person. Throughout the walk, the resource person very often emphasized on conserving and protecting the heritage in these villages.
The students used placards during the walk to spread awareness about protecting our environment. It was a great learning experience for the students as well as the staff to be enlightened about our biodiversity and historical monuments.
