International day of women and girls in science

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated annually on 11th February by the United Nations General Assembly.

The students of class 11 of Vidya Vikas Academy conducted a special assembly with an aim to highlight the contribution of women and girls in STEM fields.

The theme for this year is “Women and Girls in Science Leadership, a New Era for Sustainability”. It emphasizes the crucial role that women and girls play in shaping the trajectory of scientific progress, fostering inclusive solutions, and driving positive change for generations to come.

The assembly commenced with a short PowerPoint presentation showcasing notable Indian women who have made significant contributions in the field of science. The presentation aimed to highlight the achievements and breakthroughs of these women, serving as inspiration for the students.

A brief video was shown to the students, focusing on the remarkable mathematical skills of Shakuntala Devi. Her extraordinary abilities served as a testament to the potential and capabilities of women in STEM fields, encouraging students to explore their own talents and interests. Another video was presented, featuring inspirational quotes by the renowned astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Through her words of wisdom and determination, students were motivated to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams fearlessly, irrespective of gender barriers.

The assembly concluded on an impactful note with a student delivering a heartfelt poem on women empowerment in science. The poem emphasized the importance of gender equality in STEM education and careers, urging everyone to recognize and support the contributions of women in the field of science.
