‘Ocean Matters: Safeguarding Our Oceans’

TERI in collaboration with Globe and U.S. Consulate General Chennai organized a teacher training Workshop. It was held on 26 July 2022 (Tuesday) at Goa State Central Library, Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto, Panaji, Goa from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm.

It is an ongoing school program titled ‘Ocean Matters: Safeguarding Our Oceans’.

Three eminent speakers spoke and enlightened the teachers.

Dr. Ramaian Nagappa, Chief scientist (retired) from NIO spoke about “Oceanic Health around Goa”. He threw light on latest trends and findings of oceanic monitoring and its impact on local people. He also made participants aware about the work carried by the National Institute of Goa.

Ms. Daphne Georgina gave a talk on water temperature and its importance to oceanic life. She also taught teachers how water temperature should be taken using the thermometer provided by TERI for the project.

Dr. Elroy Joe Pereira addressed the gathering on salinity of ocean water. He highlighted the importance of salinity .He demonstrated how the schools should use the hydrometer. The schools have been given a timeline to follow and complete the project. TERI has given every school a kit that they need to use and complete the given task.

The workshop was extremely beneficial for all the participants.
