The Environment Education and Awareness Area in collaboration with U.S. Consulate General Chennai, commemorated World Oceans Day by organizing a webinar titled “Revitalizing Our Oceans” on 8 June, 2022. The students of Class 8ABC & 12 AB attended the webinar via zoom online platform. The knowledge packed webinar had experts from diverse fields to share their learning and experience and inspire students to collectively work towards safeguarding our oceans.
Ms. Angelin Archana AR, Asst. Prof of Women’s Christian College Chennai showcased South India’s historical connect with the oceans and Prof. Ramchandra Bhatta, Former Professor of Fisheries Economics College of Fisheries, Mangalore highlighted the anthropogenic threats to ocean ecosystem and it impacts on coastal communities.
Dr. Ravidas Krishna Naik, Research Scientist of National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Goa highlighted how the presence of micro plastic in the ocean retards the deposition of carbon and presented a specially designed filter to prevent micro plastic from entering into the oceans from ballast water. Mr. Santosh KR Muriki, Associate Fellow form Earth Science and Climate Change Division in TERI highlighted the role of oceans in Climate change. The entire workshop was enriching for our students.
