World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is marked on October 10 with the objective to raise awareness about mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. Mental health has come to focus in pandemic times like never before as people of all age groups and occupations bear the brunt of the ‘new normal’.

The theme for the World Mental Health Day this year is “Mental Health in an unequal world “. This theme, chosen for 2021, highlights that access to mental health services remains unequal, with between 75% to 95% of people with mental disorders in low- and middle-income countries unable to access mental health services at all, and access in high income countries is not much better.

To create awareness about the same, a special assembly video was uploaded to make students understand the importance of mental health. We need to proactively address stigma and discrimination associated with mental ill health that creates a barrier to access care and treatment. At the end of the video, a message conveyed to the students to never neglect one’s mental health.
