WORLD POETRY DAY

21st March is a noteworthy day as people across the world observe the celebration of World Poetry Day. World Poetry Day aims to value the sentiment that poetry can create purposeful relationships and expand one’s knowledge about cultures and history.
The importance of this day was conveyed to the Senior Secondary students through a special assembly. The purpose and theme of celebrating World Poetry Day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and generate or increase the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard and this was stated at the beginning of the assembly. Poetry and its importance was best explained to the students in the words of William Wordsworth- “Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.” Some interesting activities which can be taken up on World Poetry Day were shared with the students. A video which threw light on the origin of poetry was screened at the end of the assembly.
