Vidya Vikas Academy was proud to organise Model United Nations for the students of classes 9 and 10. It was the Activity for the Month of August and was held on Wednesday, 30th August 2023.
MUN is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. At a MUN conference, students work as the representative of a country and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world. MUN is meant to engage students, and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.
The objectives were:
- To hear the voice of the students.
- To encourage the youth to engage with global issues, form their opinions and express it in an articulate manner.
- To develop a deeper understanding into current world issues
- To develop and enhance problem solving and decision making abilities.
- To develop in them a respect and tolerance for the views of others.
- To develop in them an understanding that respect for rules is essential for conducting any discussion systematically and effectively
51 bright minds came together to take on the role of decision makers and offer solutions to worldwide issues. The committee in session was UNICEF and the topic of discussion was ‘Influence of social media on the mental health of the children’
Delegation comprising Tanzer Fernandes, Evana Gracias, Tanishka Desai and Khushi Chaudhary won the best delegation award. Vijiya Shaikh and Amogh Shanbhag won the best Delegate award. Shradha Karwarker, Ashmit Pawaskar, Lyanna Almeida, Vineet Mallya and Akshan Gaonkar received the verbal mention. The session was presided and moderated by Urvi Shirodkar, Sakshi Shetty and Khushi Dalvi.
Students participated enthusiastically putting in a lot of efforts. Preparing and participating in a MUN will help them develop leadership skills, research, writing, public speaking, and problem-solving skills.
